About Day One Tech S.T.E.A.M.

Day One Tech S.T.E.A.M. is a culturally responsive and trauma-informed youth organization serving East County Portland. We empower youth and families through Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM), offering hands-on experiences that blend creativity, social-emotional learning, and real-world skills. Our programs operate across schools, community centers, apartment complexes, and public parks — reaching hundreds of young people each week through both drop-in and structured engagement.

Position Overview

We are hiring two Summer Project Managers to lead and coordinate across three dynamic programs:

  • A weekday park-based STEAM program for youth
  • A teen leadership and workforce readiness program
  • A mobile community outreach initiative that brings pop-up STEM activities directly to families

Project Managers will share responsibilities and support one another, each managing multiple team members and locations while ensuring program quality, safety, and consistency. This is a hands-on leadership role that requires creativity, organization, and calm under pressure. You’ll also work closely with executive leadership to carry out deliverables, solve challenges in real time, and ensure staff and program goals align with our mission.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the daily setup, execution, and breakdown of youth and community programs at various sites
  • Supervise and support a team of youth mentors, educators, and outreach staff
  • Ensure smooth logistics, including transportation of materials, time management, and staff scheduling
  • Uphold safety and engagement standards for all participants
  • Collaborate with leadership to complete program deliverables, track progress, and communicate needs
  • Implement and adapt curriculum with intention and cultural relevance
  • Step into active programming roles when needed
  • Serve as a visible, reliable, and enthusiastic leader for youth, families, and partners
  • Model professionalism and mentor staff in building healthy relationships and youth engagement practices

Qualifications

We are looking for experienced leaders who bring both heart and structure to the work.

Ideal candidates will have:

  • Experience managing youth programs , especially across multiple sites or teams
  • A strong understanding of the needs and strengths of local youth and families , including those from historically underserved communities
  • Proven track record of dependability, clear communication, and initiative
  • Experience designing or adapting youth curriculum or programming
  • The ability to translate experience from other sectors , such as project management, nonprofit leadership, education, or operations, into this youth-focused role
  • Direct experience working with senior leadership to understand and implement organizational goals
  • Comfort leading in both structured and fluid environments , where plans evolve and flexibility is key
  • Natural ability to organize, motivate, and guide a team , while remaining grounded and compassionate
  • Familiarity with technology and digital tools is a plus
  • Must have reliable transportation and be comfortable working outdoors in variable weather

Additional Info

  • Uniform: Must wear the branded purple Day One Tech shirt when working in public
  • Sign On Bonus
  • The role may extend beyond July based on performance and team needs
