Firm Overview: DLA Immigration Services is a solo practice specializing in immigration law. We provide comprehensive legal services to individuals and families navigating the complexities of U.S. immigration law. Position Overview: We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented law student with a keen interest in immigration law for a summer internship. This is an excellent opportunity for a law student to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced legal environment, working alongside experienced attorneys and legal staff. The intern will assist with a variety of tasks, providing valuable support to our team and contributing to meaningful client outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Legal Research: Conduct in-depth research on various immigration law topics, including visa categories, asylum applications, deportation defense, and other related matters.
  • Case Management: Assist attorneys in managing client cases, including organizing and maintaining client files, preparing case summaries, and tracking deadlines.
  • Document Preparation: Draft and proofread legal documents such as petitions, affidavits, briefs, and legal correspondence under the supervision of attorneys.
  • Client Interaction: Participate in client interviews and meetings, taking detailed notes and assisting in gathering necessary documentation for case preparation.
  • Court Observations: Attend court hearings and immigration interviews when possible, gaining firsthand experience of legal proceedings.
  • Administrative Support: Support the administrative team with tasks such as filing, data entry, and scheduling appointments.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited law school, having completed at least one year of law studies.
  • Strong interest in immigration law and a commitment to advocating for immigrants' rights.
  • Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and legal research databases (e.g., LexisNexis, Westlaw).
  • Fluency in a second language, particularly Spanish, is a plus but not required.

Duration: June 1, 2025, to September 1, 2025, with potential for flexible scheduling.

Compensation: This is a paid internship. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
